Description

But, one the other hand, this book shows the blinkered and quite unsettling narrow-mindedness of the Church and the belief that innocuous behaviors cause an awful corruption of the soul. That Wicca, violent TV or 'punk' can cause satanic possession seems an antiquated and regressive viewpoint of societal norms and personal freedoms. I fear that in Amorth's eyes my interest in Dungeons & Dragons or my son's fascination with console games like Dark Souls would be enough to set the exorcist to prayers of liberation on my behalf. The Devil is Afraid of Me: The Life and Work of the World's Most Famous Exorcist, with Marcello Stanzione - published 2019, by Sophia Institute Press. Translated by Charlotte J. Fasi (originally published as Il Diavolo Ha Paura di Me, Tavagnacco: Edizioni Segno, 2016. [21] Exorcist". The Catholic Encyclopedia, Volume V. New Advent - Catholic Encyclopedia. January 1909 . Retrieved 2007-03-03. Father Gabriele Amorth, exorcist – obituary". The Telegraph. 2016-09-20. ISSN 0307-1235 . Retrieved 2023-04-13.

Once you have identified your demon, then it's time to exorcise him. This might work immediately, or it might take years. It might only work a bit. It might not work at all. Sometimes it will work but you will still need a doctor to fix the damage the demon did in the meantime. Sometimes it will work but you won't be able to tell until later. Sometimes it will only work for a while. Whatever happens, exorcism will be assumed to have been an effective course of action.Since that time, the battle with the devil has been fought on many levels. The devil has been granted enlarged power in the world by the manner in which he is ignored and God is denied. I have myself heard a priest preach a homily in which he reflected on the Gospel in which Jesus cast out the legion of demons by saying that "of course, demons don't really exist. We know today that this is just mental illness." Amorth wasn’t shy about discussing his experiences and wrote his own books, including 1999’s An Exorcist Tells His Story and 2002’s An Exorcist: More Stories which Sony Pictures says helped inspire the new film. Read it and live! Read it and learn about narcissism...its diabolical in nature! Read it and be FREE in the name of Jesus Christ Our Lord! Learn the prayers and pray it over your household! Over your job, your kids, your life! Demonology". The Catholic Encyclopedia, Volume IV. New Advent - Catholic Encyclopedia. January 1908 . Retrieved 2007-03-03. an honest (neither exaggerating nor underestimating) description about the nature of demons and demonic activities; In this powerful book, the renowned exorcist of Rome tells of his many experiences in his ministry as an exorcist doing battle with Satan to relieve the great suffering of people in the grip of evil. The importance of the ministry to expel demons is clearly seen in the Gospels, from the actions of the Apostles, and from Church history. Fr. Amorth allows the reader to witness the activities of the exorcist, to experience what an exorcist sees and does. He also reveals how little modern science, psychology, and medicine can do to help those under Satan's influence, and that only the power of Christ can release them from this kind of mental, spiritual or physical suffering. In this instance Hollywood’s sensationalist depiction of exorcism does at least get the basics right.Amorth, however, believed the need for exorcising demons was so great he advocated all Catholic clergy should be permitted to perform major exorcisms without acquiring permission. Vatican II, an international conference of Catholic bishops held between 1962 and 1965, signalled a move away from exorcism as the church attempted to modernise. As it was an audio book, I am not sure I completely understood everything. I either need to listen to it again, read-read it or read another/more by Fr. Amorth. OOF! I could NOT get through this. This is a DNF but I am counting it because it gave me so much to say about it. Amorth, Gabriele (2003). Pater Pio Lebensgeschichte eines Heiligen (1. Aufled.). Stein am Rhein. ISBN 978-3-7171-1108-5. Very interesting book. The author talked about staying away from superstitions, etc. and yet at times I felt he felt prey to them. The other part of this book is he himself has gone through alot, and helped alot of people take their ground as victorious in Christ...and he provides a realistic view that sometimes it takes longer and sometimes less time to fully exorcise demons from people/places. The church requires a thorough medical and psychiatric examination before a major exorcism can be implemented. Canon Law, the code of laws governing the church, dictates exorcisms can only be performed with “express permission” from the local ordinary, a church officer who can execute these laws.Amorth, Fr. Gabriele (2000). Excerpt from An Exorcist Tells his Story. Ignatius Press. pp.25–36. Archived from the original on 3 January 2018 . Retrieved 13 September 2006. This perspective and the way it is communicated was so difficult to listen to, I just couldn't. I think this is only for people who have....either a very intense tolerance for outmoded perspectives, OR who are devoutly Catholic/Christian in a way that feels equally aggressive OR who are (sadly) hate-reading this, OR are reading this as an elaborate ghost story.

Amorth’s claim of performing over 60,000 exorcisms requires further investigation. In his biography An Exorcist Tells His Story Amorth clarified an exorcism was an individual prayer or ritual ranging anywhere from “a few minutes” to “many hours” in length. He could thereby perform dozens of exorcisms per day, usually on troubled souls appearing on his doorstep. He also outlined the ritual itself was diagnostic. “Only through the exorcism itself can we determine with certainty whether there is a satanic influence,” he said. Amorth, Gabriele (1999). An exorcist tells his story. San Francisco, Calif.: Ignatius Press. ISBN 0-89870-710-2. OCLC 41135836. In the meantime, Amorth had co-founded the International Association of Exorcists in 1990 to help inspire and train other priests. Headquartered in Rome, its first international conference took place in 1994 and became a biannual event. The Vatican formally recognized the group in July 2014.According to The Boston Pilot, Amorth entered into the Congregation of the Society of St. Paul in August 1947 and was ordained a priest less than four years later on January 24, 1951. Grobar, Matt (August 9, 2022). " The Pope's Exorcist Finds Its Pope In Django 's Franco Nero; Laurel Marsden, Cornell S. John & Peter DeSouza-Feighoney Also Set For Screen Gems Thriller". Deadline Hollywood . Retrieved September 19, 2022. I will include a quote from "The Imitation of Christ" by Thomas Kempis: "He who follows me walketh not in darkness." With faith in God, one has His help and the strength to keep demons at bay. Amorth died at the age of 91 on September 16, 2016, a short time after he was hospitalised for pulmonary complications. [9] Exorcisms [ edit ] In the early 1990s, Amorth established the International Association of Exorcists, becoming its longtime president. The association received Vatican approval in 2014 and now holds a biannual exorcism conference.
