Description

Kesari is the South Indian variation of the North Indian Suji Halwa and the rava sheera, which is popular in the western parts of India. It is a pudding like dessert or sweet dish with rava (sooji) being the main ingredient and is very popular during festive occasions too. Several decades ago, I bought my first Kamaka ukulele (the one at far left in the photo above). Featuring some really cool artwork on the top done with colored ballpoint pen by the original owner, it was, and still is, a great-playing and -sounding instrument. But when my mother saw it, she asked me why it was shaped like a canned ham. Of course, I explained that it was actually called a pineapple uke. Little did I know at the time how this uke body shape came about, or how it was significant to the success of Kamaka. Carbonated Water, Acid (Citric Acid), Flavourings, Sweeteners (Acesulfame K, Sucralose), Acidity Regulator (Trisodium Citrate), Preservative (Sodium Benzoate), Colour (Brilliant Blue)

The first time I tried this very fruity version of the Pineapple Kesari was on Basant Panchami, the Indian spring festival. Since, many Indian Hindu households prepare yellow-colored sweet dishes on this day, I made this halwa with pineapple. I also often make the sweet saffron rice on this day. Bake this impressive tropical sponge for a special occasion. This scrumptious triple-layer passion fruit cake is also perfect for Valentine's Day KA Pineapple Soda is a refreshing and fruity soft drink that is inspired by the flavors of the Caribbean. It comes in a 330ml can, making it a convenient and portable option for on-the-go refreshment. You can also use tinned pineapple slices to make this Pineapple Sheera. While using tinned pineapple, no need to boil them in water. Just add directly to the rava when you add the hot sugar syrup. Preparation and Usage

Make the fruity pineapple flavor more dominant in the Pineapple Halwa by adding 1 to 2 drops of pineapple essence in the recipe. Stir and sauté the rava till the cashews turn a light golden and you see ghee releasing from the sides. The color of the rava granules will also change. In addition to this Pineapple Kesari, I also have other versions of the kesari like the Fruit Kesari (with mixed fruits like apple, pear, pineapple, banana and pomegranate), Mango Kesari (with fresh mango) and the Semiya Kesari (with rice semiya/vermicelli). This showstopping celebration cake tastes of summer, with pineapple and banana flavours, tangy cream cheese frosting and delicate edible flowers

Kamaka learned his trade when he was apprentice to luthier Manuel Nunes in the early 1910s. Nunes was one of the original creators and builders of ukuleles as uniquely Hawaiian instruments. In 1916, Sam Sr. opened “Kamaka Ukulele and Guitar Works” on South Street in Honolulu, where he produced high-quality guitars and ukuleles made primarily from beautiful native koa wood.
