Originally, I was going to try to put the top together all at once, but found it to be too unwieldy and hard to clamp. Instead, I did it in two pieces, clamped to dry overnight:The first leg set assembled. The stretchers are 40-1/2″ long, cut down to 3″ wide from standard 2×4. The major bracing for this comes from the lower stretcher mortised into the legs: Though it is not a piece of furniture that would be admired by all, I think this bench is going to become a family heirloom, as it will definitely be as good when I’m pushing up daisies as it is now!!
