About this deal

Chessington is all about animals and taking families on a wild adventure,” says Andrew Porter, creative lead at Merlin Entertainments‘ Resort Theme Parks group. “Animals feature quite heavily in the narrative to Room on the Broom. So it just seemed like the right story for us to keep bringing in the younger family market that Julia Donaldson attracts.”

If the animals only helped the witch because they wanted something in return, does this make it a selfish act? One of my television songs, A SQUASH AND A SQUEEZE, was made into a book in 1993, with illustrations by the wonderful Axel Scheffler. It was great to hold the book in my hand without it vanishing in the air the way the songs did. This prompted me to unearth some plays I’d written for a school reading group, and since then I’ve had 20 plays published. Most children love acting and it’s a tremendous way to improve their reading. Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler raises questions about what it means to be a friend, helping others, and teamwork. Throughout the story, many different animals help the witch collect items that she has lost. In return, she makes room for them on her broom. At the end of the book, the animals must unite and work together to save the witch from the mean dragon. Room on the Broom – A Magical Journey follows the introduction in 2017 of The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure. Both were created in collaboration with IP owner Magic Light Pictures.

Translation missing: en.products.product.price.regular_price Translation missing: en.products.product.price.sale_price Funnily enough, I find it harder to write not in verse, though I feel I am now getting the hang of it! My novel THE GIANTS AND THE JONESES is going to be made into a film by the same team who made the Harry Potter movies, and I have written three books of stories about the anarchic PRINCESS MIRROR-BELLE who appears from the mirror and disrupts the life of an otherwise ordinary eight-year-old. I have just finished writing a novel for teenagers. Noisy books aside, this is the best. He likes to point at the witch and the cat and the dog and the bird and the frog. He likes to mimic the dramatic, booming, Brian Blessed-esque voice I used for the ' down came the broom' line, around which each verse hinges. I studied Drama and French at Bristol University, where I met Malcolm, a guitar-playing medic to whom I’m now married. The unlikely group of a cat, dog, bird and frog form a great alliance as the continue to help the witch and continue their travels together. But after a while, the wind starts playing havoc and every now and then, some thing or the other goes flying off the broom, which causes them to make many pit stops! But at every stop they make a new friend, who wants to tag along, and the witch obliges, much to the chagrin of her cat! The 10-minute experience begins with a pre-show inside an enchanted library, where guests are told the story of Room on the Broom. As the witch casts her spell, a cauldron bubbles and smokes before a secret passageway is revealed behind a bookcase. Guests follow the witch through a rotating tunnel but the wind is blowing so wildly it blows off her hat. The dog, cat, frog, and bird all contributed to the statue to scare off the dragon. Would it have mattered if the frog had refused to help?

I have a little boy and love reading to him, so this reading list will cover the classic (and new) children’s stories we’re enjoying together. Make the crafts and then hide them around the classroom, playground, or house to tie this activity to the book. Kids will enjoy getting their energy out and there are many ways they can play- in teams, singles, or pairs. Prize or no prize, kids will enjoy this scavenger hunt. Animated film based on Julia Donaldson's picture book. A kind witch invites a surprising collection of animals to join her on her broom, much to the frustration of her cat. More It really allows guests to engage and interact with the characters, and gave us the opportunity to be a lot more tactile.”The witch eventually makes room on the broom for a cat, dog, bird, and frog. Are all of these characters considered friends? Students can discuss what makes people friends. Would you have made friends with the witch? How do you treat your friends? Further, because the witch allows everyone on her broom, it snaps in two. Students can consider why the witch continued to make room on her broom when there wasn’t really room. I grew up in a tall Victorian London house with my parents, grandmother, aunt, uncle, younger sister Mary and cat Geoffrey (who was really a prince in disguise. Mary and I would argue about which of us would marry him). How is the witch in this story different from the other witches you’ve seen? Would you want to be friends with her? Yet so far neither IP has found its way into any of Merlin’s other parks. Unlike, say Peppa Pig, which now features at Heide Park, Gardaland and a growing network of play attractions. Porter believes there is no reason why Donaldson’s stories wouldn’t work elsewhere. My real breakthrough was THE GRUFFALO, again illustrated by Axel. We work separately - he’s in London and I’m in Glasgow - but he sends me letters with lovely funny pictures on the envelopes.

I have written a Room on the Broom song though, which you can listen to on streaming platforms such as Spotify. All of the animals in the story help the witch. Students can have discussions about why we help others. Why did the animals return the witch’s belongings? It could be that the animals care for the well-being of the witch. Or could it be that the animals have a self-interest to go on the broom? Could it be both? Is one reason better or worse as motivation to help others? The animals are all very dedicated to the witch, who in turn is generous to allow the dog, bird, and frog to join her on the broom.A really good read-aloud story, with great rhythm, rhyme and repetitive elements. My son is 16 months old, and Room on the Broom is currently his second favourite book - he goes and gets it himself from his book shelf most days, which is really cute. When you hear Room on the Broom, you don’t instantly think of STEM, but this fun and challenging activity asks students to draw a sketch of their idea and then create it using lego, dough, or another means of creating. The Dragon is fearsome, malicious and likes being mean as can be. He also gains pleasure of eating witches. Despite that, he is later revealed to be a coward when he got scared by a mud monster (which are the witch's cat, a dog, a green bird and a frog in disguise), showing that he's afraid of big scary monsters.
