Description

The Quest Book states that “Heroes do not have routine access to shops”. This implies that instead of shopping between quests, the Heroes must wait until they enter a Hideout to shop. Well, nobody died… this time. They did come out a little worse for wear though. The Barbarian lost half his Body Points, and the Wizard lost a spell that could have been useful later on it the quest. So far, I really like what I’ve seen from this expansion. Avalon Hill seems to have delivered a really decent product with an interesting story. Rise of the Dread Moon adds new gameplay elements to the base HeroQuest set. This includes 29 miniatures, such as the Magus Guard shown here. I imagine that this isn’t exactly the way you were hoping Rise of the Dread Moon to be revealed to the world. I imagine that you had, and maybe still do have big plans for the big reveal. In the ideal world, everything would go according to plan, everyone would receive the game at the same time on launch day, everything would be perfect.

All-in-all, I like this new minion. It’s a decent addition to the HeroQuest family. It adds just enough flavour to feel like something new, but also classically reminds us of the Chaos… Dread Warrior.

Heroquest Rise of the Dread Moon announcement

The dramatic story of treachery and unrest in the elven kingdom continues in this HeroQuest Rise of the Dread Moon expansion! As a brave knight, you’re challenged to finally free Elethorn from the clutches of Zargorn. Embark on dangerous quests, as you seek the aid of the Cadre of the Raven's Veil to help stop Zargorn's forces of Dread from destroying the kingdom. Navigate through a dark labyrinth of waterways, an underground city, and more perilous locations. But be wary—for Zargon's forces grow ever stronger with the rise of the Dread Moon! HeroQuest was a smash hit for tabletop gaming, as well as becoming a gateway to tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons for millions of players. The game also influenced later tabletop board games that came after, including Games Workshop’s own Warhammer Quest, board games based on D&D, and recent games such as Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. This fantasy game for adults and teens has limitless replayability, and you can also create your own quests and stories. Gather friends together for an exciting night of tabletop gameplay in a battle of good and evil. The game is for 2-5 players, ages 14+. Some of us were hoping for some range with this enemy, but I almost think this is better. We already have the archer to give us range, the Assassin fills in the gap for the close range and diagonals. To Chris Nadeau, Avalon Bill (sorry Bill, I only know you by your Discord name), and the rest of the Team at Avalon Hill, The value of some potion reagents has fluctuated in this war-torn economy, so you may see some changes to the gold coin value of some of our potions. Who could this new hero be? The speculation has begun. The consensus that I think most have agreed on so far, is that this is an alternate version of the Guardian Knight that was previously released in limited quantity. Our wizard has been hard at work brewing potions to help our heroes meet the challenge of the Dread Moon. You will see some old favorite elixirs, but without previous hero limitations. If this is your first time hearing about Rise of the Dread Moon, this is an expansion for the HeroQuest Game System and requires the game system to play. A Note to the Development Team I also realized that because of the close quarters in the fairly small HeroQuest rooms, it’s actually a bit more difficult than I originally thought to get the full perk from adjacent monsters when casting Channel Dread.

The Assassin, seeing it’s chance, swings at the Barbarian, nearly taking him out. The Barbarian is left with 1 remaining Body Point. I am now thoroughly convinced that, as HeroQuest Superfans, the Avalon Hill HeroQuest team are now just making their own homebrews official! Why wouldn’t they!? If I was a designer, working on HeroQuest, I would probably do that too! The Dread Cultist relies on spells to supplement its abilities, specifically Dreadlights, and Channel Dread. Remember that with Channel Dread works best with other monsters who can also cast Channel Dread. This means I think it will be common to see large groups of Cultists, and have them paired up with Dread Wraiths and Specters. Formerly this was titled "New "Knight" Expansion (PulseCon 2022) News & Discussion" I can already see at this point that this will be a difficult encounter for the Heroes. Now it’s Zargon’s Turn! Edit: Encarmine confirmed that Elvyler guessed the TRUE title based on the missing word in that Avalon Hill Investors meeting screenshot. Rise of the Dread Moon (not Knights at all!). Great!!
