a b Quint (October 21, 2010). "Quint knows what Don Coscarelli's new movie is! And more importantly he knows Paul Giamatti and The Kurgan are in it!". Ain't It Cool News . Retrieved January 12, 2011. I'll admit that I was fascinated by the title and blurb, and have been looking forward to reading it so much that I was worried I might be setting myself up for a huge disappointment...I've read somewhere that somebody said it was like taking a bad LSD trip and giggling all the way. I’m not a genius, as my dad and all my old teachers at Undisclosed Eastern High School will inform you with even the slightest provocation. I’m not psychic, either. Just side effects, that’s all.It also had a lot of gore, and action, and gore, and haphazard plotting, and gore, and weirdness, and did I mention gore? Why Hitchhiker's works: a robot so depressed, talking to him compels other machines to suicide, including life-support systems.

Firstly, the dialogue in this book (and sometimes the internal monologue) is very wry and generally hilarious. Easily its best quality, and kept me reading past the slow parts. Justin White, possessed, appears in David's apartment and subdues him. Dave tries to kill him but he's infected. Justin kidnaps David, Fred, Amy, Bark, and John and takes them to an abandoned mall, hoping to use a ghostly door inside to travel to another dimension. John manipulates White into going outside, where a waiting Appleton kills him. Appleton then explodes into a swarm of demonic insects who then possess Fred, causing David to kill him. Amy opens the ghost door with her phantom limb, allowing John and Dave passage. There they meet celebrity psychic and exorcist North and Albert Marconi, who say the source of the strange happenings is Korrok, an eldritch biological supercomputer who has turned into a genocidal god that wants to travel to new dimensions and conquer them. Marconi gives David and John an LSD-laced C4 explosive to incapacitate Korrok with. This extremely amusing, suspenseful, spooky, funny genre-buster avoids the cliches and also set-pieces of a lot of horror-SF, as well as handles to be transcendentally scary without the dragging dreariness and also archaic stilted prose of Lovecraft, yet resembling his components of * absolutely * otherworldly unfamiliarity that, although entirely alien, hang together as individually-glimpsed aspects of an underlying attaching scary that is even more chilling for being only murkily outlined … yet right here, filled with strange and also reducing comedy, driven by personalities you badly wish to know directly.David Wong's Blog - Update on Suits 2 - January 28, 2019 07:57". www.goodreads.com. Archived from the original on August 20, 2020 . Retrieved November 30, 2019. The writing is what really brought the story to life. It's told from the perspective of David, who is incredibly witty & has a lot of insightful things to say about why humans behave the way they do. Sure, he is disparaging & crude in his commentary, but there's a ribbon of raw truth beneath it all that makes David an intensely relatable character. When Pargin started PWOT, he took on the pseudonym of David Wong to keep his real and online lives separate. Since much of his writing involved situations similar to his real life, he did not want co-workers and his employers to think that his rants about fictional characters were inspired by real people. The origin of the name was a character from one of his first short stories. He writes: Later, John and Dave play basketball and inadvertently throw their ball into a post-apocalyptic dimension. After going in after it, a paramilitary organization informs them they are chosen ones who will restore the world, but an annoyed John and Dave walk off. Like an episode of AMC's The Walking Dead written by Douglas Adams of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy…Imagine a mentally ill narrator describing the zombie apocalypse while drunk, and the end result is unlike any other book of the genre. Seriously, dude, touch it and read it." – Washington Post
