In a nutshell, each drone in the Mavic 3 range has a very defined role to play, based on their specific capabilities: Mavic 3, Mavic 3 Cine, and Mavic 3 Classic are aimed at content creators, with the Cine especially suited to high-end filmmaking; the Mavic 3 Enterprise is engineered for high-precision, centimetre-accurate surveying and inspection; the Mavic 3 Thermal is designed for search and rescue, public safety and thermal inspection and thermal mapping; and the Mavic 3M is best suited to agriculture, land management, and environmental monitoring. The camera system is mounted on a 3-axis motorized gimbal to ensure every shot is smooth and steady. While the body of the Mavic 3 is covered with six fisheye and two wide-angle avoidance sensors, aka Omnidirectional Obstacle Avoidance, to protect the drone from unintentional collisions and assist with autonomous flight. Like most any global navigational satellite system these days, the Mavic 3 contains multiple receivers for different satellite positioning systems. The GPS, Galileo, and BeiDou receivers ensure the drone’s positioning requiring systems work effectively across the globe. Intriguingly, opting for the EU Galileo system over the Russian GLONASS system like in the Mavic Air 2S or the DJI FPV drones. Could this have to do with changing EU drone regulations? EU drone classification laws have not yet been finalized, so it is hard to say for certain. The Mavic 3 Series is compatible with three controllers - the DJI RC, DJI RC Pro, and the DJI RC-N1. The Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine also have a 1/2-inch CMOS 12MP Tele camera, capable of achieving 28x hybrid zoom. The Mavic 3 Classic does not feature the Tele camera, and has 3x digital zoom via its single Hasselblad sensor. Mavic 3 Pro and Mavic 3 Cine also feature dual Tele cameras, while Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine have a single Tele camera; While the Cine model offers ProRes HQ and more internal storage, I’m not sure it’s worth the extra cost for many users. I haven’t shot the Cine version, so it’s hard to have a solid opinion if the ProRes HQ is far superior to the H.265 option of the Mavic 3. If you are a professional, then I can totally understand getting the version with the most features.

DJI RC Pro Controller

So, with six Mavic 3 aircraft to choose from, which one is right for you, and what do the Mavic 3E, Mavic 3T, and Mavic 3M bring to the party?

In contrast, the original Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine have two cameras - the Hasselblad camera, as well as one Tele Camera. The Mavic 3 Classic only has the Hasselblad sensor (which has a 3x zoom). But whether this matters comes down to preference, and the DJI RC-N1 - which is still a popular controller - may well fit the bill. The Mavic 3's Standard version and Fly More Combo cost almost 40% more than their Mavic 2 Pro equivalents did at launch, which suggests the Mavic 3 is more of a professional drone than a consumer model. The DJI Air 2S replaces the Mavic 2 Pro at the top of the consumer line with a 1-inch sensor, while the Mavic 3 features a Four Thirds sensor in the main camera.
