About this deal

The approaching storm depicted as a thundering mass of galloping horses and a warrior raining down silver arrows is particularly striking. Clara Anganuzzi’s primary coloured illustrations depict Fly Boy with hot red wings in contrast to his friend’s blue ones and, in the wrong hands, the entire project might have felt trite, but its heartfelt simplicity is powerfully direct, just right for its young audience. Meanwhile, Fly Boy, the children’s debut from novelist and poet JJ Bola, seems a natural extension of his previous writing for adults on issues including masculinity, home and identity. Amy’s story follows her adventure through Noah’s digestive system, and she is very excited about it.

Farah Loves Mangos by new author-illustrator Sarthak Sinha (Flying Eye), about a young girl obsessed with the fruit from her grandpa’s tree, is like a dose of bottled sunshine. Paker’s vibrant and zany illustrations, here in full colour glory, are the perfect foil for Kay’s nerdy enthusiasm for explaining how bodies work. This is Going to Hurt has sold over two million copies, been translated into 37 languages, and is the bestselling narrative nonfiction title of the decade, spending over a year at number one in the Sunday Times bestseller chart.

His second book "Twas the Nightshift Before Christmas" was an instant Sunday Times number one bestseller and sold over 500,000 copies in its first few weeks. Young children are completely fascinated by everything toilet related and immediately recognising the emoji style poo on the cover, will find the book irresistible. His follow-up, Twas the Nightshift Before Christmas, sold over 500,000 copies in the last three months of 2019, and saw him become the first author to have simultaneous Sunday Times number ones for both hardback and paperback nonfiction titles.

This is a used book - there is no escaping the fact it has been read by someone else and it will show signs of wear and previous use. From the duo behind the award winning and best-selling Kay’s Anatomy and Kay’s Marvellous Medicine we have a debut picturebook that proves they are just as successful at communicating biological facts accurately for three-to five-year-olds, as they are for older readers. Dear NHS", edited by Adam Kay, was an instant Sunday Times number one with all profits donated to charity. Named Iron Robin, the bird manages to survive the fiery tongue of Oliver’s soft toy Draggi before being thrown on to the school roof and lost by some older kids.

Full of Adam Kay’s trademark humour, this is an amusing and educational picture book and is sure to be a favourite. She passes reassurance onto the other bits of food as they are absorbed into Noah’s body to be used for important tasks. We are introduced to Amy - a piece of sweetcorn – at the start of the book, but there’s no chance to talk to her as Noah has just eaten her on a giant slice of pizza! The trend for acclaimed novelists of adult fiction to sidestep into picture books shows no signs of abating. You can understand the allure: children’s publishing is booming and the task of conjuring a whole world in a slim clutch of pages must seem a tantalising exercise in efficiency and imagination for authors more accustomed to turning in dozens of chapters.
