Description

century gentle, slow burn gay romance involving a vampire and his secretary, with autism and ADHD rep, it seemed as if it could hardly be more up my alley if it tried. Or how he would get so entrapped by Greek mythological stories because he had never heard them before? Or that airplane jumps from ‘Fallout’ that’s so obviously CGI in ‘Heart of Stone’ (whereas the insane but brilliant Tom Cruis actually jumped off of a plane). For all its supernatural and period trappings, this was at its heart (hah) a novel really about two people trying to fall in love from a great distance, and how they overcame each hurdle along the way.

this book was so precise and beautiful with its words that the not-so-subtle, scream-worthy pining felt akin to that of a leyendecker painting. He's ready to move in humility instead of with the hot headed impulsiveness which has gotten him to this point. I have never seen an author utilize so poorly their vampiric character for literary purposes and metaphors. Heart of Stone is a 2023 American spy action thriller film directed by Tom Harper from a screenplay by Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder and a story by Rucka. This series has made me laugh, cry, scream, howl in frustration, and peer through fingers bracing for what gut-wrenching shenanigans would derail Rembrandt at the turn of the next page. The letters truly stuck out like a sore thumb in the rest of the novel (both for their tediousness and for the peculiar writing and typing choices such as the use of itemized lists and for the brackets to specify actions—just like they did on tumblr back in the day). There are many other books where a MC would have taken the opportunity while the other is sleeping to snoop, thus creating secrets and drama.

It’s an unforgettable journey of spiritual discovery, costly forgiveness, learning to let go of control and fears and haunting regrets, and finding the courage to trust. I should state here that I have neither firsthand nor caregiving experience with either ADHD or autism, so I can't speak to the rep from those perspectives. There was cold cases to solve, romances to love, WHAT moments and me scream-reading at Rem to put the pieces to discover the Jackson killer (who I guessed correct in book 5 - may I be Rem's crime fighting partner? If readers have been reading these books as they have been released, they will be excited to obtain the final book and have the full story come to life. The lessons in this book aren’t just of general faith, but also those that men of faith should know. What a perfectly satisfying, leave me with happy tears in my eyes (at 2:00 am, mind you), how did they wrap it all up so well, kind of series closer.

I can go on and on about how great this series was, how the authors took it to the next level, how, if you are patient, you will grow along with Rem in his journey to correct things, to see the truth and come face to face with that and God, but. The characters are extremely flat and have no growth whatsoever throughout the entire novel, the fact that Henry is a vampire was of no importance since it did not impact the story at all except to eventually turn his parter (whereas one could potentially draw parallels between monstrosity and homosexuality, which would’ve been so much more interesting). So often, the last book of a series is so focused on wrapping up threads it misses the PUNCH you want. Includes what appears to be autistic and ADHD rep, brief discussion of slavery as a source of some people’s wealth, as well as a side character who is a free black man with a happy life.
