Description

She has Lavender spell a made-up word, tricking the other children into purposely spelling words incorrectly in rebellion. I believe this film best represents the themes behind Roald Dahl's rather subversive children's literature. Mara Wilson as Matilda Wormwood; a young, savvy, well-mannered, intelligent 6½-year-old girl whose powers can make anything possible, Miss Honey's adoptive daughter towards the end. They are a couple of ghastly nouveau-riche provincials who probably betray Roald Dahl’s snobbery, but who also surely inspired Harry Potter’s Muggle aunt and uncle, the Dursleys. Harry Wormwood: Listen, you little wiseacre: I'm smart, you're dumb; I'm big, you're little; I'm right, you're wrong, and there's nothing you can do about it.

On Metacritic, the film has a score of 72 out of 100 based on reviews from 21 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews. Embeth Davidtz as Miss Honey; the kind and devoted teacher at Crunchem Hall who inspires Matilda to believe in the power of what is inside, Matilda's adoptive mother towards the end.

Matilda remained at the top of the UK box office for three consecutive weeks, until Avatar: The Way of Water. Excited to attend Crunchem Hall, Matilda is surprised to find the school is an ominous and oppressive place led by the huge and villainous Miss Trunchbull. Matilda follows the story of a mistreated five-year-old child prodigy who attends a school run by an abusive headmistress, Miss Trunchbull. Magnus died, apparently by suicide, three years later, supposedly leaving everything in his will to Trunchbull. Arriving at school, Matilda and her fellow new student Lavender are warned about the terrible way the students are treated there.

In 2022, it was remade as Matilda the Musical, which was the second adaptation of the novel of the same name. After discovering the car Harry sold her was faulty, Trunchbull locks Matilda in the chokey as punishment. Matilda is a 1996 American fantasy comedy film co-produced and directed by Danny DeVito from a screenplay by Nicholas Kazan and Robin Swicord, based on the 1988 novel of the same name by Roald Dahl. One of them, " Send Me on My Way" by Rusted Root, is played twice: when four-year-old Matilda is left alone at her house, making pancakes, and at the end of the film, set to a montage of Matilda and Miss Honey playing at Miss Trunchbull's former house. Trunchbull is the kind of villainess children can enjoy, because she is too ridiculous to be taken seriously and yet really is mean and evil, like the witch in Snow White. The cast was filled out between January and April 2021, including Weir, Lynch, Thompson, Vee, Graham and Riseborough. Danny DeVito as Harry Wormwood; Zinnia's husband, Matilda and Michael's father, and a grumpy, hateful and abusive crooked car salesman.

In the plot, Matilda Wormwood (Weir), who is neglected and mistreated by her parents (Graham and Riseborough), develops psychokinetic abilities to deal with Miss Trunchbull (Thompson), the ruthless and cruel headmistress of Crunchem Hall School. Upon her first day, Matilda meets other students who warn her about Trunchbull's abusive methods of discipline, which include throwing students out the window and locking them in the "chokey", a small cramped closet resembling an iron maiden. Best known for his stage and TV work, Kelly’s one previous film credit is for writing the Jude Law thriller Black Sea.

She licks the snot from her nose in front of the students when Miss Trunchbull tells Bruce the cook's "sweat and blood went into this cake. Harry sells a car to Miss Trunchbull, the tyrannical principal of Crunchem Hall Elementary School, in exchange for admitting Matilda as a student. We’ve always cast men as Miss Trunchbull on stage because she has to be six feet tall and pick up a child and swing it around. In the UK, there's currently no release date for the film's Netflix debut, but it is available on Netflix in the US and globally.
