About this deal

Snakes have a bit of a reputation of being slimy and creepy (not true, but that’s the rep they’ve got). This redundancy can make them resistant to failure because they can continue to operate even if parts of their body are destroyed. Through a series of experiments it was found that the snakes partitioned their bodies into three sections.

A SnakeBot is different from a snake-arm robot in that the SnakeBot robot types are usually more self-contained, where a snake-arm robot usually has remote mechanicals from the arm itself, possibly connected to a larger system. The front and rear body of the snake wriggled back and forth on the horizontal steps like a wave, while the middle body section remained stiff, hovering to bridge the large step.

Scientists observed how snakes moved and used this information to make a robot that can climb large steps in a nimble and stable fashion. Modelled after genuine snake movements, this Robo Snake slithers along the ground like a real snake, has a brilliant realistic tongue-flick motion and even has awesome eye movement - all designed to add a layer of the almost-uncanny to this robotic marvel of a snake. Please remove or replace such wording and instead of making proclamations about a subject's importance, use facts and attribution to demonstrate that importance. These snakes have to regularly travel across boulders and fallen trees – they’re the masters of movement and there’s much we can learn from them,” he said. Implementing this control scheme in a SnakeBot capable of sidewinding allowed the robot to replicate the success of the snakes.

When a task requires several different obstacles to be overcome, the locomotive flexibility of SnakeBots potentially offers an advantage. The small cross-section-to-length ratios allow them to move into and maneuver through tight spaces and their ability to change the shape of their bodies allows them to perform a wide range of behaviors, such as climbing stairs or tree trunks. This orange snake, which moves like a real snake and has realistic eyeballs, plus a tongue which flicks in and out, is ideal for little ones who love the animal kingdom. Previous studies had mainly looked at snake movements on flat surfaces, but rarely in 3D terrain, except for on trees. This section contains wording that promotes the subject in a subjective manner without imparting real information.

If the steps got taller and more slippery, the snake would move more slowly and wriggle their front and rear body less to maintain stability. They say that compared to robot snakes from other studies, their creation is more stable than all but one, and came close to matching a real snake’s speed. Snake robots come in many shapes and sizes, from as long as four stories (earthquake SnakeBot developed by SINTEF [1]) to a medical SnakeBot developed at Carnegie Mellon University that is thin enough to maneuver around organs inside a human chest cavity. But for those of you who appreciate snakes for the critters they truly are, this awesome Robo Snake, in a choice of scarlet or green, might be just the fella you’re after.

Snakebots are used in situations where their characteristics give them an advantage over their environment. Li said: “The animal is still far more superior, but these results are promising for the field of robots that can travel across large obstacles. The SnakeBot, also known as a snake robot, is a biomorphic hyper-redundant robot that resembles a biological snake. It is hoped that the robots may some day help to explore inaccessible terrain, such as rubble after an earthquake. Software for SnakeBot is also being developed by NASA for them to be able to learn by experiencing the skills to scale obstacles and remember the techniques.Sidewinder rattlesnakes can use sidewinding to ascend sandy slopes by increasing the portion of the body in contact with the sand to match the reduced yielding force of the inclined sand, allowing them to ascend to the maximum possible sand slope without slip.
