Each of Jane Austen’s masterpieces is enchantingly funny, touchingly and wittily told, and filled with a dazzling gallery of characters. Since this is a review of The Complete Novels of Jane Austen with all of her seven books in it, instead of writing my reviews for each of those novels, I'm doing so for my review of the condition of this book as a whole. Die Ober- und Unterseite ist aus schönem roten Stoff (wahrscheinlich Leinen), der Schuber insgesamt wirkt stabil und hochwertig. Jane Austen hat eine schöne Sprache und schildert das gesellschaftliche Leben dieser Zeit sehr anschaulich. But lacking in perception and maturity and judgement and discrimination they often spoil more than they would like to admit, often ruining lives.

Austen was gifted with a keen observation of human nature and possessed a refined sense of the satirical, a master at setting off events with the clash of weak versus strong characters, and how all things will settle themselves for better or worse, depending on the choices each person makes.This beautiful volume covers the literary career of one of England’s finest prose stylists of any century.

As a child and teenager, she wrote brilliantly witty stories for her family's amusement, as well as a novella, Lady Susan. At the risk of stating the obvious, considering how some people complained about the size of this book upon receiving it, a collection of seven novels is not meant to be the kind of book to carry around. This famous opening may not hold true in this day and age, but I would definitely acknowledge the truth that Jane Austen is, hands down, a genius! Die Edition wirkt natürlich nicht sonderlich modern, aber hochwertig und altmodisch klassisch, für den Preis von knapp 36€, den ich bezahlt habe, wirklich sehr schön gestaltet. Young people were still impetuous and foolhardy, many people liked to gossip, everyone could be vain and foolish, and there's nothing like a good love story to catch people's imaginations.Sense and Sensibility” ~ After a death in the family, the once wealthy Dashwoods are reduced in their monetary means and are compelled by their change in circumstances to move to a humble cottage on the estate of a distant relative. This yielded a fresh and increased appreciation for Austen as one of the rightful heirs to Shakespeare for her rich characterization and penetrating insight. Lady Susan is a devil-may-care socialite who has squandered her fortune makes life a misery for her family and friends. But I look forward to seeing where I am, how I've changed, and if my favorites will be altered, compared to where I am today. An unlikely fave, since most people would put this book at the bottom of their lists, but it has always been a favorite of mine.

With loveless or merely convenient marriages scattered about among secondary characters, what keeps us turning the page is the possibility of a marriage enlivened by affection. The young man however has excellent character and fortunately realises what is what, and love triumphs even without money. Here Austen chooses the letter form prevalent in her time, and avoids commentary, except in letters of another character, giving equal voice to two opposite characters as it were.Her sharp sense of humor and keen eye for the ridiculous in human behavior gave her works lasting appeal. The novels included in the collection - Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, and Lady Susan - represent all of Austen's complete novels, and provide the reader with an entrance into the world she and her memorable characters inhabited. The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid. Will shy, quiet Fanny have the courage to stand up for herself despite appearing ungrateful to her uncle?
