Passmedicine provides an online revision for the MRCP Part 1, MRCGP Applied Knowledge Test (AKT), GP ST Stage 2 – Specialty Recruitment Assessment, Medical student finals, MRCP Part 2, Situational Judgement Test, PLAB, DRCOG. Revision questions in the modern form to help you pass. Don'tbediscouragedifyou'renotsuccessfulonthefirstattempt.It'sahardexam(oddlyreminiscentofadrivingtest)andsomepeoplegetsomeweirdcasesorharshexaminersontheday. My simple answer is that relying on one method alone can leave you a little short. No question bank can cover every aspect of the MSRA, whilst purely reading books and guidelines will not give your brain adequate exposure to problem-solving. If planned well, both should be used together as both have advantages in terms of improving retention and performance. Ruby is 2 years old and is seen today with her father as she has had a one-week history of runny nose and has complained her throat hurts. This morning she has noted a rash on both cheeks but nowhere else on the body. Ruby is well in herself and eating, drinking, passing urine and opening her bowels as normal. She has no other medical history and is up to date with immunisations. She is not lethargic and on examination today is playing happily in the consulting room, has normal observations and an unremarkable respiratory and throat examination. There is a diffuse erythematous rash on both cheeks. What is her most likely diagnosis?

As mentioned for Obstetrics and Gynaecology ST1, in some cases, a high score can allow you to skip the interview section of the application and be ranked above fellow applicants, therefore increasing your chances of receiving a training offer in your preferred programme/location. While General Practice ST1 and Core Psychiatry Training CT1 don’t include an interview; instead, they assess and rank applicants solely on their MSRA score. So it’s worth investing the time preparing for the MSRA exam. There are two types of question (see this video which covers how to approach the two main types of MSRA SJT Question): For the multiple best answer questions the most important thing is that the options you choose to take are intended to work TOGETHER. Don’t select one answer that contradicts another, or is very similar but not quite as good – because you just wouldn’t do that in real life. Clinical Problem Solving There is an optional five-minute break between the two papers. If candidates take a longer break, this extra time will be subtracted from the time available in which to complete the CPS paper. 2You will be given a set of responses (usually between 5 – 8 in this instance) and asked to select the most appropriate option for a single scenario. There are two rounds of recruitment a year, one to begin your job in February, the other to begin the job in August. Passing the MSRA is valid for one year so you could, in theory, apply for both rounds of that year without having to re-sit it.

The MSRA is delivered in Pearson VUE test centres across several consecutive days within the MSRA window. The exam is offered throughout the UK and internationally; you can find your closest test centre here . It’s worth noting that there may not be availability at your nearest or preferred Pearson VUE test centre, due to the demand within the short assessment window, so you may be required to travel further to sit your exam. ClinicalcasesforMRCPCHTAS–usefulcases.Igotalibrarycopyanddidstudythebookcovertocover.Probablywouldn’thavebeenworthbuyingbutdefinitelyagoodbook.You are a FY2 Doctor on an orthopaedic ward. Your team have just seen an elderly Spanish man on the busy ward round who understands limited English. Your registrar has gained written consent from him for a hip operation scheduled for 2 days’ time. One of the nurses quietly says to you that she suspects the patient was just nodding politely and understood very little. She says she does not want to undermine the registrar. You know his daughter visits daily and always translates if she is present. Do you: The more practice questions you do, the more chance you have of scoring a higher score, it’s that simple. You will be presented with clinical scenarios and required to utilise your judgement and problem solving skills to determine the appropriate diagnosis and treatment of patients. The Professional Dilemmas Paper is separated into the following two parts, with around half of the 50 scenarios for each question type: Part 1 – Ranking

Katie Smith, accepted as a GPST1 at Sherwood Forest, shares her exam advice and the revision strategy that enabled her to secure her top job preference. All applicants to GP specialty training are required to sit the MSRA. Candidates who do not achieve the minimum score required for GP specialty training must resit. 2 A successful outcome from the previous recruitment year cannot be transferred. For GP applicants, your offer and location of your offer will depend solely on your MSRA score, as opposed to an interview being included like in previous years. Some locations are much more popular than others, so will require a higher MSRA score to be in line with the competition. The score for each paper is normalised; this is usually around a mean score of 250, but as normalisation is dependent on each year’s average scores, there could be a variation of up to 40 marks either side of the mean score. There is no negative marking; marks can still be rewarded for answers that are not entirely correct but unanswered questions will be given no marks. The MSRA is designed to assess essential competencies expected at foundation level. The Professional Dilemmas paper assesses your professional behaviours and judgements in relation to clinical scenarios; relating directly to the General Medical Council’s (GMC’s) generic professional capabilities framework, it thereby assesses the capabilities expected of all doctors. The Clinical Problem Solving paper assesses your ability to make appropriate clinical decisions drawing on your clinical knowledge and problem solving skills; based on the Foundation Programme, it assesses competencies expected at this stage of your experience. Therefore, the MSRA is an accessible and fair examination for entry to ST. Extensive teaching notes accompany each question. These build to form a reference library you can access at any time After candidates have filled in their application for GP specialty training, and the deadline for application submission has passed, they are provided details to register with Pearson VUE. Applications are assessed using the criteria listed in the General Practice – ST1 Person Specification. Subsequently, longlisted candidates are invited to sit the MSRA. Candidates must book a test for their preferred centre, date, and time by logging onto their Pearson VUE account.
